Commenting on the national statistic that black students are more likely to receive abstinence-only education, Tracie Gilbert, a research scientist in Widener’s Interdisciplinary Sexuality Research Collaborative and an alumna of the Center for Human Sexuality Studies, argues that abstinence-only curriculums can reinforce harmful stereotypes of black people.
